Okay, it may have a cheesy cover, but Michael Corbett's "Find It, Fix It, Flip It" book rocks.
I am in the process of finding my first flip (fixer house that I will improve and sell), which means that I am avidly educating myself about the market, and reading everything that I can get my hands on. So far I've found that most of the titles on this topic not only look cheesy outside, but are also cheesy on the inside. And as an editor I just cannot condone that, and it frequently means I can't get through the material.
But this book is different. It makes sense, it's written well and concisely. The information in it rings true, and the advice seems sound. I came across Corbett's book on the Internet, but it turns out that my mentor Aaron Leider of Keller Williams knows the guy, and is actually going to be quoted in Corbett's next book (which is on staging). Leider hasn't read the either book, but he seemed to endorse the guy.
Another caveat, I haven't put the suggestions to actual use as of yet, but just today I was out looking at open houses, and came back to run his formulas on one particular property. When I do find a property to fix and flip, there will undoubtedly be more posts... In short, I highly recommend this book to anyone with a passing interest on buying and fixing up a house.
